I am planning for my first VBAC. I'm really determined, but at the same time scared - not scared I won't be able to handle the surges etc. - scared that it is the wrong decision to do VBAC, that I will rupture and that something will happen to me or my baby. I keep asking myself - is it worth the very small risk - am I being selfish - what if something happens to me and by kids and hubby are left alone? But somewhere a stronger voice in me is pushing me forward towards a VBAC - I instinctively want a normal birth - even more so than the first time around. Why do I have this urge?

I have decided to go fullsteam ahead for a VBAC and trust that God will steer the process in the end - that He knows my heart's desire and that He will do what is best for me and my baby and protect me and my baby no matter what (VBAC or C-Section). I am trusting that He will keep the uterus in tact. I am however only human and sometimes doubt gets the better of me - how do I know that a VBAC is God's will for me, what if God decides to allow a rupture, what if I'm making too big a deal of this etc etc.

Please may I ask that anyone out there who also believe in God pray for me and my baby girl. For guidance, confidence, strength, faith, safety and a wonderful VBAC experience. Please.

This forum post manually restored

Hi Clarisse,

No need to apologize for something that is so near to you right now. The reality is also that for the greater percentage of women a rupture never happens.

Provided you are with good caregivers who have this kind of birth experience and are confident in what they are doing and in you there is very little to

worry about.
Let me put this into perspective for you so that you can rest assured that a uterine rupture shouldn't worry you:
The risk of a uterus rupturing (0.03-0.07%, in a scarred or unscarred uterus is lower than a cord prolapse (2.1-2.3%) in all pregnancies.
There are not many women out there that worry about cord prolapses yet this is a higher risk of occurance as opposed to a uterine rupture.
Yes, in case you're wondering, a uterine rupture is possible in an unscarred uterus too and infact I have only really ever seen it in a first time mommy.
Listening to Prof Justus Hofmeyer at a midwifery symposium recently he was stating that there has been a huge increase in UR in unscarred uteruses as opposed

to scarred uteruses as a result of incorrect dosage of Cytotec drug to induce labour. Since most caregivers know not to induce vbac's the chances are lowered

for a UR for vbac's.

Hope this helps quell those fears a little.
Worry is good, it makes you look for answers to understand your fear.
Keep digging.

Love and sunshine
Lia
xxx

This forum post manually restored

Hi there,

To be very honest, its still one of my biggest fears! Before anything else, Im worried that something is going to pop. I was speaking to a midwife a few

months back and she made a comment that sort of freaked me out a bit. She said that if a scar is going to go, then there is nothing you can do about it. If

its going, its going.

I just smiled and nodded but never really asked her what she meant by this. I think I should have lol. So you think she was trying to say that if the scar is

going to rupture its gonna happen whether I VBAC or CS? Ive been telling myself that.

I getting crazy broody again this last month or so. Its almost getting irrational this yearning to have another child and to have my vba2c. Im feeling a bit

shy about it.

I have so much weight to lose before I can even consider getting pregnant again. I am at least 15kg over the norm, so my personal feelings will have to wait.

First weight then the rest. Im battling to lose the kilos. Work stress and bad eating habbits are really not helping.

Sorry, Im monologing here

It is frightening and overwhelming with a little pressure added in as

well.

The mind is doing it's job here trying to keep you safe. It would be almost impossible for a women who has had a caesarean birth or two and not begin to

doubt herself at some point in the process of preparing for a vbac.
It just means that you are beginning to do the deeper work of preparing. This is a good thing. It will give you the answers you need to help yourself.

Sue King is in my opinion thge best option for midwife care in your case as she has successfully help several mom's with a vba2c's.
If you would like to work through some of the things that are crowding in at the moment, you can also contact me through PM and we can chat about your

options.

I trust that you know what you need to do as you are the only one who truly knows what she needs.

Love and surrender
Lia
xxx

This forum post manually restored

Hi Clarisse,

Glad you got to go see Genesis. Awesome huh?

As a general rule second and subsequent labours can go faster, even for vbacs, provided they experienced labour in previous pregnancies.
The issues here go a lot deeper than just physical.
There is the emotional realm that also affects the labouring process and for mom's attempting a vbac this can have many layers as you can well imagine.
There are beliefs that become questioned or insecurities that suddenly pop up demanding attention when one might not want to acknowledge them for fear of

repeating or creating those fears.
Another important aspect is to see how your own mother laboured with you and other children.

There is a school of thought that acknowledges that fears and worries create comlications in labour and birth therefore the more the mother works through her

fears before the birth the better it is.
For researched information on this you can visit http://www.wombecology.com

Sometimes with a vbac it can tak a little longer as the body warms up slowly to the contractions so as to avoid a problem but going to fast.
Fundamentally it is always a good idea to trust your body so whatever it is doing you follow it's lead and listen in to your gut intuition. If you're worried

you speak up and have yourself checked, if you're secure you're fine then communicate that too. Your body still knows exactly what to do.

Love and support
Lia
xxx

I there

Im from Pretoria. Ive found Genesis Clinic in Johannesburg which looks awesome but Im not 100% if the midwives there are very keen on helping with a VBA2C. I

was planning on contacting Sue King and asking her for assistance when the time comes.

A few women have recommended her for my specific need. I am very happy to go birth at Genesis as well. This weekend I had a major case of nerves. I started

to wonder if this is really something that I would be able to do. I was stressing that I am going to not get it right and everyone will tell me 'i told you

so'.

Im scared something might happen and then I'll be the 0.38% stat where something does go wrong and its all my fault.

Ag I want this soooo badly! I visualise what the experience must be like! I try and read what I can, and I try to also keep an open mind. Anything can (and

will) happen. Just have to keep my head.

C
xx

Hi there guys
I want to know something. I want to VBA2C. This weekend I was talking to 2midwives at Genesis, before they knew about the vba2c, I told them this is mythird

child and (long story short) they commented on the labour being faster.
So what I want to know is this: is labour and delivery faster for subsequintpregnancies? And does the same rule apply to VBA2C?
I went into natural labour with my second child at 39 weeks on the dot when the'emergency' cs was done. Was just wondering if I should expect a faster

labourand delivery even though Ive never had a vaginal birth?
Hope I make sense.
ThanksC

There is a midwife that also does births in Pretoria and she has done some vbamc at home.

I've never met her (yet) but will probably use her once I'm preggies.

Her name is Sue King and it sounds like, from other stories and forums, that she has had good success with vbamc. The only midwife I've heard that actually has a large success rate with it.

I'm sure her number is available on the net else through the clinics or someone who has birthed with her before.

wondering one!

I'm glad your wondering has brought you here.

It is sad that you were told after your first caesarean that you could no longer try for a natural birth. There are many women that have had succesful vbamc's all over the world.

South Africa is finally coming to the fore and is slowing catching on but in reality there is still much to be done as we still have doctors saying once a caesar always a caesar.

The question of risk that you ask about is true even if you have another baby.

It is not the delivery that puts you at risk but the actual pregnancy.

If the scar holds for the pregnancy then it will in all likelihood hold during birth.

There are many issues at play here and some further research on your part will help you understand that a vbac's risks are lower than another repeat caesarean.

Please look on the side of this website for the VBACSA e-list and join there as well as there are dozens of women on that email group that share experiences and information that can help you understand more of what you are searching for.

Please continue to ask your questions as they benefit many others who read them here.

I have had three c-sections since after the first when my baby was breach, the doctors told me I could no longer try to give birth naturally.

I have recently read a newspaper article in a local newspaper that a doctor in my area, delivered a baby naturally after the patient had, had 3 previous c-sections.

I mentioned this to my husband and he said that if I tried to give birth naturally - I would pop open - and that he would not want to risk the life of his wife.

I've always dreamed of giving natural birth but to win his approval - AND THAT OF MY DOCTOR WHO SAYS NO - is going to be a real challenge ...

Can it be done without my life being at risk ?

Hiya,

A doula can give great support but in the event of something happening I'm afraid that she will have very little at her disposal. A doula is a non-medical professional and as such she would not and should not have the necessary stuff in the event of an emergency.

Whilst the likelihood of an emergency happening are low they nevertheless exist for all women having babies not just VBACers.

In these difficult economical times, many mother, like you, are finding it harder and harder to achieve what they desperately want. I strongly urge you to look at all your resources, within your family and without. Perhaps a payment plan for a midwife would work. You will never know until you try it out. There are good midwives that understand the pressures and are willing to work it out with women who are financially strapped.

I think the most important thing is that you are safe and that you feel safe with whatever decision you ultimately make.

A doula would be a great idea to have around during labour to the tell you when it looks like a good idea to go into the hospital to birth. This would be your best bet, lest expensive and possibly the safest thing to having a midwife present. The only difficulty is regarding the hospital if they allow doulas or not.

Keep searching and something will come up.

Many people are reading the forums and one day someone will post their thoughts too.

Good luck!

Love and hope
